Famous Swedes in the USA:    Alexander Samuelsson: The Designer Behind the Iconic Coca-Cola Bottle Alexander Samuelsson grew up in Kungälv, just outside of Gothenburg, Sweden, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 21 in 1883. Even before leaving Sweden, Samuelsson had worked in the glassmaking industry, and he continued in the same profession upon arriving in America. After nearly 30 years in the country, in 1915, Samuelsson was a top executive at Chapman Root Bottling Company in Illinois, where the original design for Coca-Cola's famous glass bottle was created, inspired by the shape of a cocoa bean. Samuelsson's name appears on the patent for the bottle, but it remains unclear whether he was personally responsible for the design. Despite this significant contribution to one of the most recognizable brands in the world, Samuelsson did not earn any substantial financial rewards from the design.
