Famous Swedes in the USA:
Buzz Aldrin: From Värmland to the Moon

Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin (1930–) is a legendary astronaut who, along with Neil Armstrong, participated in the first manned moon landing in 1969. But did you know that Buzz Aldrin has deep roots in Sweden? His Swedish ancestry traces back to Värmland, a region known for its rich history and beautiful landscapes.

Buzz's grandfather, Karl Johan Aldrin, along with his grandmother, hailed from Norra Råda in Värmland. Coming from a family of blacksmiths, Karl Johan emigrated to the United States in 1892 and continued his trade as a blacksmith in Massachusetts.

The Aldrin name can be traced back four more generations in Sweden, highlighting a lineage of resilience and skill that perhaps contributed to Buzz Aldrin's pioneering spirit. From the small communities of Värmland to the vast expanse of space, Buzz Aldrin's journey is a testament to the incredible contributions that Swedish-Americans have made to both the United States and the world.
